Luna Game Labs creates emotionally resonant, narrative-driven games that empower players to support themselves and others through imaginative play and emotionally attuned design.
Luna Game Labs is a narrative game studio focused on envisioning personal growth as incredible journeys. Our mission is to cultivate emotional expression through exploration, creating spaces where reflection, connection, and growth feel both meaningful and engaging. We serve young adults seeking games that resonate with their core values and lived experiences. Luna Game Labs designs narrative-driven games that empower players to support themselves and others through deep, personally meaningful gameplay. Our flagship project, Kindred, is a fantasy RPG where players traverse imaginative inner worlds—confronting distorted thoughts, navigating mind dungeons, and practicing restorative skills to gently soothe distress within themselves and others. Since 2024, Luna Game Labs has collaborated with organizations including ARPA-H, AERDF, and Logitech G, and has been recognized for pioneering emotionally intelligent game design at the intersection of mental health, storytelling, and digital wellbeing.
Product Specs
Kindred is an emotionally adaptive narrative RPG where players explore fantastical inner worlds shaped by their own emotions. Players support themselves and others by confronting symbolic enemies based on cognitive distortions, navigating “mind dungeons” that physically embody the thoughts and feelings of characters, and using emotional mastery abilities inspired by real-world therapeutic approaches (i.e., CBT, DBT, ACT, psychodynamic therapy, art therapy, narrative therapy).
Key Features:
- An emotional combat system where feelings, thoughts, and emotions are game mechanics
- A skill system inspired by different therapeutic approaches and philosophies
- Narrative and journaling-based reflection tools that encourage both in-game and real-life growth
- AI-driven non-playable characters and game environments that adapt to player inputs and emotional states
Impact: Kindred helps young people develop emotional language, self-awareness, and resilience through narrative-design and gameplay. It encourages players to reflect on their own mental health by allowing them to support the game’s characters in navigating their lived experiences.
